Are you an artist? Are you a SWAT Kats fan? Are you looking for a little…
Then you’ve come to the right place! Welcome to the MegakatCity.com Art Challenge, the internet’s new exclusive location for one of the SWAT Kats fandom’s longest running events. Started by Strike under the moniker of The Monthly SWAT Kats Art Challenge, this fun-filled event would pit artist-against-artist in a friendly competition to see whose creative interpretation in response to a posted challenge would be declared…
Over the decades this event has changed hands, parameters and participants, spanning a generation since its 1997 debut. Today, MegakatCity.com has become the honorary steward of this event, and we’re proud and honored to have that responsibility.
Art Challenge 3
STEAM Kats! PastMaster is meddling once again! Gone are the advancement of the combustion engine and the wonders of electricity are merely the hands of those like Niclaw Tesla. Steam still rules the day and it brings with it all the other Victorian trappings: fashion, culture, architectural style and art. It's up to you to portray your chosen character(s) in SteamPunk period setting, with special attention to that period's attire and how it'd best reflect the character(s) established design, gadgets, uniforms, and personality.
You have been challenged by NeeKnight
Do you accept the challenge? Yes? Okay! Now What?

When the deadline arrives, your artwork will go up against all others who’ve answered the challenge. The citizens of MegakatCity.com will then be given seven days to decide the victor.
If your art wins the vote, you will have forever earned the title of Challenge Champion.
You will be immortalized among SWAT Kats fandom artists. People will “Ooh and Aah” at your presence, you’ll receive the adoration of millions, bouncers at nightclubs will unclasp those velvet ropes, autograph requests will overwhelm your inbox, talk show hosts will fight over who gets to interview you, and you’ll be able to quit your day job as your wildest dreams come true! (Individual results may vary.)
Also, you’ll earn the custom title of Challenge Champion on MegakatCity.com, be featured on the homepage of swatkats.info with a link to your gallery, adorned with attention on SWAT Kats social media and be able to choose the next challenge topic. And, as a new added bonus, the winner will receive a rare REMCO Razor action figure, European version, still in its original packaging.
The in-depth details follow, and you can view the current challenge's status on this thread.
If the art is too mature or violates the rules it cannot be posted on the MegakatCity.com forums and as such cannot be voted on and becomes ineligible to win.
If you are uncertain if your artwork will exceed the ruleswe encourage you to share any works in progress, sketches, or concept/spec work prior to you investing large amounts of effort with any of our helpful moderators here at MegakatCity.com who can provide help on an individual basis.
In order to vote on the poll for the challenge winner, you must be a member of the forums.
You can vote for yourself, but we encourage you to vote for whoever you think best met the challenge.
Only artwork submitted by the deadline can be voted upon. If an artist is running behind and finishes after the deadline they can still post it to the challenge but it will be ineligible to win.
There is no sign-up sheet. It's up to the participants to complete their artwork and get it posted to this thread before the deadline. If participants want to publicly announce their involvement or share their works-in-progress that is up to them - whatever is submitted as the final piece of art is what will be the focus of the voting.
Artists can submit artwork at whatever skill level or effort level they would like. Sketch, inked, colored, etc. But keep in mind how much effort you put in can be a factor in the voting.
Who you vote for in the poll is confidential.
Entries must be your own work. Digital or hand drawn screengrab manipulations or tracing is not allowed.
Entries must be new. New artwork is the goal and is expected from everyone so that it best fits and is inspired by the challenge.
Each artist may submit only one entry per challenge. If you post works-in-progress, the final/latest version will be what counts.
Collaborations are allowed and encouraged! Just make sure whoever submits the finished work credits both parties involved in its creation. At least one collaborator must be a member of the MegakatCity.com forum. Also, make sure whoever you partner with is someone that will want to share a challenge idea with you.
Any sort of style of art is acceptable such as anime, comic, cartoony, etc. as is any type of art form, be it traditional media, digital, clay, etc. so long as it is a completely original work by you and does not break any rules.
Give it effort! We understand that artists have different ability levels, but effort is encouraged and the challenge is only as successful as you make it.
OCs (Original Characters) are allowed. However, in order for this to be a SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron art challenge, there must be at least one canon character included and depicted in an equal fashion that is not completely overshadowed by the original character.
Unless there’s an exception in a specific challenge, there should be no characters from other established series, movies, books, videogames, anime, etc. as that has the potential to detract from the challenge.
Quality of the image file is a must! Images (if hand drawn) should be scanned in! If you do not own a scanner then see if there is one available to you at school, college, library, etc. If you must take a photograph, make sure it is a good quality image. No blurred or dark images as that would take away from your wonderful work.
The length of the challenge will be no less than 30 days and no more than 50 days, starting at the time of the anouncement. The deadline will be a Monday morning to allow for a full final weekend. More exact times will be given for particular challenges in this thread.
Once the deadline is reached, a moderator will setup a poll in the challenge thread with all of the posted qualifying entries. The poll will last until the following Monday morning (7 days). All members of MegakatCity.com are allowed to vote. After 7 days have passed, the poll will be locked and the winner announced.
The winner will forever be known as the Challenge Champion for that specific event, and will earn a custom title/rank for their achievement. Their artwork will also appear on the homepage of swatkats.info with a link to their art gallery. And, the winner will get to choose the topic of the next challenge. As a new added bonus, the winner will receive a rare REMCO Razor action figure, European version, still in its original packaging.
Winners are ineligible to win consecutively. However, should they wish to participate they are allowed to do so (their entry will not appear in the poll).
Time between challenges will be determined by the MegakatCity.com staff, but likely no less than two weeks in order to avoid artist burnout. General member artist opinion may factor in to increase or decrease that time if there is significant demand.
While it is unlikely, additional rules, parameters or criteria may be added to account for any unforseen circumstances that arise during the course of the challenge if it proves neccessary. These changes will be announced should they occur.
Challenge Topics: The goal is to be creative when choosing the next challenge, but at the same time not be overly restrictive. Something like "T-Bone's worst nightmare!" would be good as it allows enough freedom for artists to work with, but a parameter like "Draw Hard Drive dancing inside a light bulb doing the electric slide in his surge coat at dark but the light is on" is too specific. The staff asks that the winners not publicly share their challenge idea so that when it’s time to schedule the next challenge everyone has an equal start time opportunity.
Have Fun: This activity is meant to help foster creativity among SWAT Kats fandom artists who love to draw and are looking for a new venue to try something new, and for artists of varying skill levels to participate and hone their abilities. Even if your art isn't voted as the "winner" it will still be viewed by hundreds of people and will receive feedback from MegakatCity.com's residents and be archived with the challenge.
Post your art challenge responses to this thread before the deadline in…

Art Challenge One Champion
Congratulations to Kanogetz for the winning Art Challenge One!
The SWAT Kats Revolution has begun, but it’s been over 20 years since SWAT Kats first aired. A lot of time has passed, and with that, styles, trends, ‘what’s cool’ and a whole host of other factors have changed. From a 2016 perspective, your challenge is to redesign or portray a canon character how you think they would appear in a contemporary setting (i.e. how they would look on television today or how they would look ‘modernized’). The character can be a protagonist or villain character. The minimum amount of canon characters is one, and if you’re feeling generous, you can have more than one redesigned character in the image/scene.
